HRB recognized in Press-Citizen story on college slogans
Jim Thebeau, partner and senior vice president and director of public relations at Henry Russell Bruce, was featured in an article in the Iowa City Press-Citizen on Jan. 16, 2008.
The article, which discussed the increasing number of colleges across the country creating brands and slogans, used Thebeau as an expert source. The article revealed that many universities use their slogans as a way to be distinguished from other colleges. It also went into detail about the role Henry Russell Bruce played in the development of the University of Iowa’s “Be Remarkable” campaign.
In the article, Thebeau explained the phenomenon of higher education institutions branding themselves. He also discussed what a good slogan and tag line entails.
“I think higher education institutions are taking this to a higher level than they have in the past. They are looking for something to hang their hats on more than a sports team,” Thebeau said in the article. “One of the keys to a good brand or a good tag line is that it is something people can see, something they can remember and something they can connect with.”
Though the article focused mainly on the University of Iowa’s “Be Remarkable” slogan developed by HRB, reporter Brian Morelli also touched on the slogans of other Iowa colleges and as well as colleges around the country.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen is a daily newspaper that serves most of Johnson county and portions of the surrounding counties.
