I’ve skipped around a lot of places during my education at
the University of
Iowa. I started dead-set
on becoming a hard-hitting journalist, spent time as a newspaper editor, worked
on Capitol Hill, dabbled in corporate public relations, and am now finishing up
my first agency internship. It’s been a wild ride.
At Henry Russell Bruce, I completed the last lap of my
communications marathon. I was thrown into the fray and expected to paddle my
way to the top. I appreciate the responsibility and respect I was given as an
intern from day one. The expectations of Inga and Jim forced me to perform at a
level that met their professional standards. I am very grateful to leave with a
diverse portfolio that will undoubtedly enhance my chances of success after
college.
As an intern, my opinions and insights were valued. I was
encouraged to speak up during brainstorming sessions and praised for answering
client questions during a meeting I only intended to shadow. This allows a
person to grow confidence in their work and voice. As I approach graduation,
that confidence is invaluable to getting where I want to go.
During my time with HRB, I also interned on Hillary
Clinton's campaign. As May rapidly approaches, I plan to use my political
experience (a former internship and my major) to pursue a job in campaigning or
on Capitol Hill. I am also interested in pursuing public policy PR, and will be
moving to D.C. as soon as I grab my diploma.
I truly enjoyed my time at HRB, including all of Rochelle's
lovely treats and Inga's good-natured sarcasm. I’ve met so many talented and
kind people at HRB, and wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Thank you so very much for this opportunity.
